The video piece, The Blue Wave Women, was commissioned by the Jeju Biennale in 2022. 
This work draws inspiration from the culturally significant site of Samseonghyeol on Jeju Island.

Samseonghyeol, known as the "Cave of the Three Clans," is said to be the birthplace of Jeju’s founding families—Go, Yang, and Bu—who emerged from three holes in the ground. 
According to the myth, the three founding fathers lived in harmony on the island but faced challenges in cultivating the land. One day, emissaries from a distant kingdom arrived by sea, bringing gifts and offering their princesses in marriage to the three leaders. These princesses are believed to have served as symbolic bridges between the earthly realm and the divine.

Instead of focusing on the clan leaders from the original story, The Blue Wave Women shifts its perspective to the three female figures who were offered as "gifts." Through a reinterpretation of the mythological elements, the piece explores questions of identity, emphasizing the fluidity of identity and sexuality—extending to same-sex relationships, animals, and even objects.

To bring this vision to life, the piece was filmed in Jeju and Taiwan, featuring choreography by Taiwanese dancers. Composer Tak Chueng Hui crafted the soundtrack, blending traditional Korean folk songs with live performances, fostering a dialogue between the histories and collective memories of the two islands.
