"Remains for Those Remain" is a collaborative project between artist Ting-Tong Chang and composer Tak-Cheung Hui. It is a site-specific installation and 18-channel audio installation that features a large-scale immersive environment made of human hair. The project explores the profound connection between human hair, identity, sound, and spirituality.

In this project, human hair plays a central role. Hair is an "organ" that continues to grow even after one's death. It reflects the identity and personal history of its owners and, to some extent, the essence of human existence.

Within the exhibition space, a substantial amount of human hair is meticulously arranged, creating a visually stunning landscape. The intricate patterns formed by the hair, the varying heights of hair piles, and the strong scent of scalp oil combine to create an immersive environment that evokes intense sensory experiences. As visitors explore the space, they are surrounded by a unique soundscape generated by the stacked hair piles, adding another layer to their immersive journey.

In addition to the sensory experience of the hair itself, the installation incorporates a strategically positioned 18-channel audio system. Composed by Hui, the music features vocal recordings that resonate with gospel or church music. The sounds resonate and intersect through multiple speakers, creating a unique spatial experience that combines visual aesthetics, auditory sensations, melodies, and profound emotions.

By interweaving hair and soundscapes, this project creates an immersive experience that goes beyond mere visual aesthetics. It resonates with the audience on emotional and spiritual levels, inviting them to contemplate the profound aspects of their existence.
